MO‘OLELO

These star lines may look like vertebrae along a backbone. Ka Iwikuamoʻo (The bone back-lizard) is also a metaphor for a persons genealogical line, with each vertebra representing a different generation. The start line follows as Hokupa'a (Fixed star), Holopuni (To circle/sail or travel around), Na Hiku (The Seven/Big Dipper), Hokule'a (Star of Gladness), Hikianalia (star), Me'e (Voice of Joy), Hanaiakamalama (Cared for by the moon). This star line follows Ke Ka o Makaliʻi into the sky.

The compass is to be looked at as if looking up at the stars; head facing North, feet to the South, West (Komohana) to the righthand side, East (Hikina) to the lefthand side.
